Kill Your Color Wheels is the creation of Jim O'Donnell.

Jim O’Donnell is an artist, art teacher, and art teacher-teacher. He’s taught middle, elementary, and college studio art; and coordinated an Art Education undergraduate program in Georgia for 4 years while also being its sole instructor, supervisor, and committee chair. Since then he has taught classes at Ohio State University and Georgia State University on topics such as arts-integration for early-childhood educators, art appreciation, technology-integration and social justice in visual culture. Additionally, he has taught several courses for The Art of Education University on managing art instruction and designing curricula, and had the opportunity to design and lead Teaching K12 Art Online, a course created to support art teachers in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic. He created KillYourColorWheels.com, a blog where he self-publishes on a range of art education topics while sorely lacking thorough editing and adult supervision. Jim's artistic practice is trans-media, featuring video, performance, installation, writing, mixed media, writing, and drawing - his first and greatest love. His topics are often personal involving the exploration of family history, trauma, and social media. You can view his art on his occasionally updated website JamesODonnellArt.com.

Jim holds a BA in Art Education from the University of Florida, an MFA from Georgia State University in Drawing, Painting & Printmaking, and is currently a PhD candidate at OSU where he is researching undergrads’ relationship with online media using a mixed-methods, art-based approach. This marks his most significant research project since his eighth-grade term paper titled The Problems in School and Possible Solutions. He was honored to be named Georgia Higher Education Art Educator of the Year for 2016 and most recently received the OSU College of Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Award for Teaching Excellence for 2019.

Fun Fact: Jim auditioned for the first season of Bravo’s Art Star reality-television show. After traveling to NYC and a 13 hour wait in line, he managed to make it to the second round of auditions but the real prize was the friends he made along the way. In retrospect, he’s glad he wasn’t on television.
